Matthew Knies is a big-bodied, offensive-minded centerman who has many useful tools at his disposal. His greatest attribute is his elite level hands. Knies has smooth, quick hands, and in combination with his size, it is an incredible challenge to get the puck off him. This allows Knies to drive offense well relative to his peers at the USHL level. He is an above-average skater, owning a long, powerful stride. This, along with his excellent balance, only adds to his puck protection game. For Knies to build off his strong DY-1 year (in which he put up 14 goals, 31 assists, 45 points in 44 games) he will have to include his teammates more in the play. He tends to try to be a one man show too often which can lead to reckless turnovers. Knies has committed to the University of Minnesota and is eligible for the 2021 NHL draft.
