Matthew is a quick puck mover, excellent overall skater, and has the ability to adapt to multiple situations by his team play. Despite currently leading the WHL in points, Matthew still lets go of the puck early to avoid problems of his strength and reach which takes away his ability to control the puck in dominant moments on his own. I think while his agility, hockey IQ, and above average shot release are all tools in the toolkit, I don’t think his transition to pro hockey will be seamless. I would like to see him hold onto the puck a little longer and force himself into more moments to play in tight spaces. While others have Matthew near the top of the 2022 NHL draft, I feel others might have him a touch lower.

Although denied Exceptional Player Status by the WHL last season, Savoie is still an elite level prospect who has the potential to be a franchise altering player. Savoie is hands down the fastest, and best skater out of 2004 born players. Savoie already has NHL level skating that always makes him a threat, making it so defenders cannot take a shift off against him. He has elite hands that can keep up with his feet, he is not afraid to attack defenders head on and push the pace of play. Savoie attacks the net with confidence and is a fearless player despite his smaller (5’10) frame. Savoie is an amazing playmaker who can thread the needle and connect on passes like very few players, as he has exceptional vision and creativity. Savoie sees the game like many other great players do, as he often is a step or two ahead of his opponents before the next move is even made. His shot doesn’t have NHL level power yet, but he has pinpoint accuracy and an elite level release that catches goalies by surprise. Against his peers, Savoie is a solid defensive player, as he has great awareness of where to be and it is seldom, he makes an egregious defensive error. Savoie has all the tools necessary to take over a game at any given moment and will push Shane Wright for the 1st overall pick position in the 2022 NHL Draft as he has the potential to be a franchise level centerman that can make an immediate impact.

All data is in percentile form. If a player rating is 90, this means he is better than 90% of all players of the same position (forward or defense) in this stat in his specific league.
Unless otherwise stated, all data is at 5 on 5 per 60 minute rates.
Ratings for offense, defense and transition include more stats than listed on this player card.
