PROJECTION First Round
NHL teams are going to be dying to get their hands on Owen Power. A hulking, yet dynamic two-way defensemen he’s the dream player for any NHL coach. Power towers at 6’5” 209, but still gets around the ice like any other top blueline prospect. Usually larger defenders struggle to get moving laterally and make pivots and shifts, but this isn’t a problem for Power. He excels defensively with a large reach that can take a puck off an opponent's stick from feet away. Few are willing to challenge Power as attempting to rarely results in anything but a turnover. While big, Power is still smart about using his physicality. A fault in many larger defenders is relying too heavily on hits and physical play, but Power knows when and how to use his body. Offensively, Owen can jump up into the rush to get chances when the time is right. A powerful shot is also a given when it comes to this type of player, it allowed him to score 12 goals over his 45 game season. He isn’t an elite playmaking guy, but he manages to create offense with a high hockey sense. What makes Power so appealing is that he’s a prototypical tall defenseman with few of the setbacks that usually sink players such as him.
